In January 2016 Gov. Cuomo initiated the New York Empire Corps to help address issues of poverty, hunger, and homelessness across the state. Funds from this initiative will be used to help establish new AmeriCorps opportunities that will address and ameliorate these issues. "The Commission is pleased to request applications for funding to establish and administer these new AmeriCorps program(s), and anticipates awarding grants totaling approximately $1.53 million to applicants selected for funding." Applicants must be seeking to help directly address poverty in their organization and/or improve educational opportunities for impoverished children.
