The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law on December 10, 2015 by President Obama. This act builds on and revises the 2002 No Child Left Behind act.
A shift to more local education oversight is among the many changes that will come as the act is implemented across the nation. Other important changes are the inclusion of engineering and technology into science assessments, more support for STEM specific specialty schools, and the creation of a STEM Master Teacher Corps program. The
Math Science Partnership Program will no longer be funded by federal money, but James Brown, the executive director of the STEM Education Coalition, feels that
many more STEM education projects will be supported through ESSA even without the MSP program.
