Grant Opportunity: The New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) is seeking proposals for their 2020-2023 Clinically-Rich Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual Education and/or English to Speakers of Other Languages (CR-ITI-BE/ESOL) grant program. This program aims to address the shortage of certified bilingual and ESOL teachers in New York State by funding the creation of Clinically Rich Intensive Teacher Institutes (CR-ITI) to provide bilingual extensions and certification in ESOL to graduate candidates.
Applicant institutions must collaborate with local education agencies to select teacher candidates and/or mentor-teachers to work with candidates.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education that have a NYS-certified program in Bilingual Education that leads to a bilingual extension and/or an English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certification program. Applicant institutions must be located in New York State, outside of New York City.
Grant Period: The grant period for this CR-ITI grant is four years with projects beginning January 1, 2020 and ending December 31, 2023.
Grant Amount: One institution of higher education will be selected for the CR-ITI-BE/ESOL grant and will be awarded $150,000 per year for the four-year grant period.
