The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced an additional $40.3M in CARES funding for economic stabilization grants to support essential operations at cultural institutions across the country. This funding is much needed extra support on top of the $75M in CARES funding that was released in March 2020. Click here to view the entire press release.
The need for this additional funding is more important than ever according to Joe Parrish Peede, Chairman of NEH. “Over the past few months we have witnessed tremendous financial distress at cultural organizations across the country, which have been compelled to furlough staff, cancel programs, and reduce operations to make up for revenue shortfalls caused by the pandemic.”
The primary purpose of this funding is to retain staff at cultural institutions such as historic sites, colleges and universities, museums, archives, and similar institutions from June through December 2020. Assisting organizations to prepare for reopening facilities, exhibitions, and programming are also a priority of this funding.
