Grant Opportunity: Grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund are designed to advance preservation efforts in historic sites that represent African American heritage.
Grants are administered in four categories:
- Capital Project grants support the restoration, rehabilitation, stabilization, and preservation of historic places and structures, including construction and planning costs.
- Organizational Capacity Building grants support projects that increase the number of part-time and full-time staff and increase the organization’s capacity.
- Project Planning grants fund the obtainment consultant services, development of viable business plans, feasibility studies, preservation plans, and engineering and environmental studies.
- Programming and Interpretation grants fund the design and implementation of interactive and collaborative projects that advance new approaches to storytelling, public engagement, preservation education, scholarship, and/ or mapping. Grants in this category may also fund the sponsoring preservation conferences and workshops and/or the design and implementation of communications materials.
Eligibility: Public agencies and nonprofit organizations that focus on African American cultural heritage as its main mission are eligible to apply.
Grant Amount: Grants will range between $50,000 and $150,000. For more details, please visit the grant website.
Grant Period: All grants will have a grant period of one year. Applicants may, however, request Organizational Capacity Building Grants for two years.
