In a March 20 press release, New York’s Board of Regents Chancellor and Interim State Education Commissioner announced a suspension of elementary- and intermediate-level state-wide assessment tests. The announcement came the same day New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an Executive Order announcing a state-wide quarantine of all non-essential workers to slow the spread of the COVID19 virus.

“It’s imperative that while New York’s schools are closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all children have access to essential services like food programs and learning opportunities,” said Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa. “The guidance released today by the Department will assist districts as they create plans to provide the important services and supports that will keep students engaged in learning and receiving healthy meals while schools are closed.”

To keep parents and educators informed during the quarantine period, New York’s Department of Education created a dedicated COVID-19 webpage with a list of resources and guidance to keep students on track.
