Developing STEM Ecosystems in Higher Education

Grant Opportunity: In order to foster a national science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) workforce that is prepared to tackle evolving defense technological challenges, the Department of Defense (DoD) National Defense Education Program (NDEP)'s STEM Community College Consortium Cooperative Agreement will provide funding for consortia of institutions of higher education, local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations, industry, and others involved with STEM education. Funded partnerships should develop sustainable STEM ecosystems, particularly those that promote the completion of certificate training programs aligned to DoD priority areas and increase the rates of transition from two-year/ community colleges to STEM degrees at four-year colleges/ universities.
 
Eligibility: Two-year educational institutions, community colleges, state or State political subdivision units, individuals, and nonprofit organizations located in the United States and United States Territories are eligible to apply. Consortiums must either be existing or new partnerships with sources from industry, non-profit institutions, institutions of higher education, state, and/or local educational agencies.
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: The grant period for this award is a maximum of six years. Awards are structured as a base agreement of a three year duration, with additional three one-year options based on recipient performance and availability of funds. Awards will not exceed $5,000,000 over the initial three year period. Upon acceptance into the additional option years, funding will be a maximum of $2,000,000 per year in the option period.
