McKinney-Vento Grant Applications Due Next Month

Grant Opportunity: The McKinney-Vento Grant program is currently accepting proposals for the 2019-2022 grant cycle. Distributed by the U.S. Department of Education through the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program, McKinney-Vento grants fund the development and implementation of programs and activities designed to improve the attendance, engagement, and academic success of students in temporary housing in New York State local educational agencies. Grant Period: The grant period is between July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022. Year 2 and 3 funding will be authorized based on submission of a satisfactory annual report. Eligibility: New York State local educational agencies including public school districts, BOCES, and charter schools are eligible to apply for McKinney-Vento Grants. BOCES may only apply as part of a consortium. The NYC Department of Education is the eligible school district applicant in NYC, not individual Community School Districts. Applicant agencies must also have identified a minimum average of 100 students in temporary housing in the 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-2018 school years; however, agencies that have less than the minimum average of 100 students may apply as a consortium in order to meet the requirement. Grant Amount: Grant funds will vary depending the number of students identified as homeless by the local educational agency/ consortia.
  • 100-200 students identified – up to $45,000 per year
  • 201-300 students identified – up to $55,000 per year
  • 301-600 students identified – up to $65,000 per year
  • 601-1000 students identified – up to $80,000 per year
  • 1001-2000 students identified – up to $100,000 per year
  • 2001-50,000 students identified – up to $125,000 per year
  • >50,000 students identified- up to $2.5 Million per year
In addition, 12 Enhanced Grants for Trauma-Sensitive Schools provide funds of up to $20,000 per year for a three year period for educational agencies taking deliberate steps to design and implement trauma-sensitive school-wide programs.
