BRI Professional Development Associate Dr. Peter Kalenda is leading a series of STEM Professional Development Workshops in the Batavia City School District (BCSD) this semester. The series- Developing an Understanding of Energy: Learning STEM Content Through Inquiry- aims to provide primary and secondary teachers with the skills to develop inquiry-based science lessons aligned with NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards
The workshops are part of a larger collaboration between BCSD and The College at Brockport dedicated to enhancing content and teacher and school leader pedagogy by providing coaching and collaborative development with a focus on the topic of energy. This project is led by Dr. Kalenda, who is a Lecturer for Childhood Science Education at The College at Brockport, and aims to enable STEM teachers to re-contextualize lessons to bring science concepts to life in order to support the next generation of energy leaders.
Funding for the workshops is provided by The New York State Department of Education through their Math Science Partnership (MSP) Grant, written by BRI.
In addition, BRI Evaluations Associate Dr. Pamela Beach, Professor of Kinesiology, Sports Study and Physical Education at The College at Brockport, will be leading evaluation efforts for this project.
