Grant Opportunity:The Smart Scholars Early College High School (SS-ECHS) Program partners institutions of higher education (IHEs) with public school districts to create early college high schools that provide students with the opportunity and preparation to accelerate the completion of their high school studies while earning college credits at the same time.
This program is targeted to students who are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education. Students receive additional academic support from the school/college partnerships to ensure they are at grade level and ready to participate in rigorous high school and collegiate courses. The program serves to increase high school graduation and college completion rates while reducing student tuition costs as a result of the compressed time needed to complete a college degree.
Eligibility: Not-for-profit. Public school districts or BOCES must serve as the applicant/fiscal agent for this grant program. Note to current partnerships: Currently funded (SS-ECHS) partnerships may apply to create a new SS-ECHS project, separate from currently operating projects; however, they may not apply to expand their current projects. Additionally, these funds are not meant to replace any previously awarded Smart Scholars ECHS projects.
Grant Amount: NYSED anticipates awarding up to 12 projects, ranging from up to $100,000 in year one to $600,000 in year 4, depending on school size. Please see Project Funding section of the RFP for additional information.
