STEP to Support Academic Enrichment for Historically Underrepresented Students

Grant Opportunity: The New York State Education Department's  Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) provides funding for institutions of higher education (IHEs) to provide academic enrichment in science and mathematics content areas to historically underrepresented and disadvantaged students. STEP aims to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college and improve their participation rate in STEM-related fields. 

Eligibility: New York State IHEs with registered scientific, technical, or health-related professional or pre-professional programs that lead to professional licensure or to employment are eligible to apply. Consortia of IHEs are also eligible to apply. Projects must be administered in a school or school district with 20 percent or more enrollment of historically underrepresented students as described by NYSED standards. 

Grant Amount: The maximum award for an individual CSTEP project will be $450,000 per year. The maximum award for newly funded individual CSTEP projects will be $300,000. The maximum award for a consortium CSTEP project will be $1,000,000 per year.

Grant Period: The grant period for this grant is five years with projects occurring between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2025.
