Oct 10, 2019 at 09:00 am by Amanda Lai

Grant Opportunity: The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is once again seeking proposals for their Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries (APP) grant program. This program funds projects for the 2020 fiscal year that aim to strengthen the ability of small and rural libraries and archives to serve their communities.

Applicants can submit proposals in the following categories:

  • Transforming School Library Practice Projects are projects that embrace meaningful shifts from transactional approaches toward ones in which school libraries serve as dynamic hubs for self-directed, inquiry-based learning and partners for teachers.
  • Community Memory Projects are projects that engage local communities in the collection, documentation, and preservation of local histories, experiences, and identities.
  • Digital Inclusion Projects enhance the role of libraries in increasing access to information, ideas, and networks. IMLS has a particular interest in projects that promote digital literacy, provide internet access, and encourage community engagement.

Eligibility: Applicant organizations must be a nonprofit library, library consortium, parent organization (i.e. a school district or academic institution), or unit of State or local government located in the United States or U.S. territories.

Transforming School Library Practice proposals are limited to school districts or administrative units applying on behalf of eligible school libraries.

Grant Amount: Awards through the APP Program range between $10,000 and $50,000

Grant Period: The grant period for APP grants is two years.

Deadline: December 2, 2019 (Please note IMLS recommends that applicants apply for a account at least several weeks prior to the deadline.)

For more information:  For more information, please see the IMLS notice.
