As of March 22, all of New York state is on PAUSE (Policies Assure Uniform Safety for Everyone) following the Executive Order from Governor Andrew Cuomo to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. While New York’s Department of Education has suspended assessment testing for elementary and intermediate grades and all schools have been closed until further notice, students should continue to engage with learning, even from home.

We’ve put together a list of free educational resources for educators to use as they transition to online platforms and for parents searching for lesson plans and materials while they homeschool their children.

National Geographic™ Kids. The website features video tours of zoos with animal demonstrations, lessons on American history and culture, science experiment ideas, resources to help students with homework, and quizzes to keep kids engaged. The site is 100% free to all.

homeschoolshare. Designed for families that home school children year-round, the site has complete lesson plans for students of all ages, including lesson plans for advanced algebra and pre-calculus. Materials are available for download and digital lesson plans are available also.

Mystery Science. Full science lesson plans for grades K-5 are available. Lesson plans include teaching materials and videos with recommendations for each grade level; all lessons align with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core. Materials are free, but you must create an account with the site to access them.

Duolingo℠. This language program features foreign language lessons for learners of all levels. All materials are free, but you must create an account with the site to access them. The program also has a mobile app function for smartphones and tablets.

Scholastic™: Learn from Home. A wide range of education resources are available for families and for teachers. A free collection of worksheets in multiple subjects for students PreK-grade 8. All materials are free, but you must create an account with the site to access them.
