Faculty at the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport were recently awarded a grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to study family caregiving in the context of visual impairment. Lauren Lieberman, PhD and Pamela Beach, PhD, co-directors of the Institute for Movement Studies for Individuals with Visual Impairments (IMSVI), and Afeez A. Hazzan, MSC, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Healthcare Studies, are the primary investigators on this grant. This project aims to implement and evaluate interventions to improve the quality of life for caregivers of older adults with visual impairments, an often underserved group. The funds for this project will be spent to provide unpaid caregivers with appropriate equipment and support.
If you are an unpaid caregiver of an individual with a visual impairment that is interested in participating, contact Dr. Pamela Beach at pbeach@brockport.edu or 585-395-5427. Caregivers will participate in support groups, educational sessions, nutritional classes, yoga, and/ or mindfulness based upon their interest and will receive equipment and payment for their participation. Caregivers will participate virtually.
