May marks Mental Health Awareness Month! Started in 1949, this month aims to raise awareness for mental health conditions, eradicate stigma, and advocate for policies that support those affected by mental illness. In honor of this month, we would like to highlight a few projects BRI is involved in to support mental health in our community.
BRI has recently written four successful mental health grants including:
-
A New York State Education Department (NYSED) Recover from COVID School Program grant at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES to expand mental health supports in schools in order to address student well-being and learning loss resulting from the pandemic
-
A New York State Office of Mental Health Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) grant with CASA-Trinity to increase access to behavioral health services in underserved communities with financial stability through enhanced reimbursement
-
SAMHSA Project Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education (AWARE) grants at Rensselaer City School District and Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES aiming to develop sustainable infrastructure for school-based mental health programs and services
In addition, we are evaluators on several projects, including:
-
U.S. Education Department Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration programs at Nazareth University and SUNY Oswego which will provide competitive grants to support and demonstrate innovative partnerships to train school-based mental health service providers for employment in schools and education
-
A 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) program at the Center for Youth provides essential out-of-school time learning that helps accelerate academic recovery and support students’ social, emotional, and mental health
We are proud to be supporting these organizations and their work in addressing mental wellness!
