Funding for Direct Mental Health Supports for Students Through the SBHSN

Grant opportunity: The School-Based Healthcare Solutions Network's Principal Student Support Services provides funding to schools serving grades 6-12 to recruit, place, and train mental health professionals on campus. 

There are two components to the grant. 

  • SBHSN Grant Support awards will cover the compensation, including salary and associated costs, associated with recruiting, placing, and training a fully funded mental health professional who will deliver mental health support services directly to students.
  • Performance-Based Grant Awards will be available to select schools. Funds from this award can be used at the discretion of the school principal to achieve student mental health objectives. 

Eligibility: Eligible applicants include local educational agencies, charter schools, charter school management companies, public schools, and private schools. Applying schools must serve at least 500 students and must demonstrate a significant student need in the following areas: 

  • Economic Need
  • Chronic Absenteeism
  • Behavioral Challenges
  • Social-Emotional Well-Being
  • Preventative Mental Health Support

Grant Amount and Grant Period: SBHSN grants are capped at a maximum of $85,000 per year for a five-year grant period. Performance-Based Grant Awards will be capped at $5,000 per year for a five-year grant period. 

Application Deadline: This grant has a rolling deadline. However, applications are reviewed on the First Monday of July, September, November, and February of the year.
