Mar 31, 2021 at 11:00 am by Amanda Lai

Grant Opportunity: The National Science Foundation (NSF) is currently accepting applications for their Launching Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (LEAPS-MPS) program. This grant supports the research careers of pre-tenure faculty, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups, mathematical and physical sciences (MPS) fields at minority-serving institutions, predominantly undergraduate institutions, and Carnegie Research 2 universities. The LEAPS program provides funding for beginning investigators to undertake activities that will lead to the formulation of competitive grant applications to NSF.

Eligibility: Institutions of higher education, including two and four year accredited colleges and universities, with a campus located in the U.S. are eligible to apply on behalf of their faculty members.

Principal investigators must meet the following criteria:

  • A citizen, national or legally admitted permanent resident
  • Hold a doctoral degree in the typical disciplines of the fundamental research areas supported by the Divisions of the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Are a new investigator at the time of application submission
  • Have not previously served as Principal Investigator, co-Principal Investigator, or Senior Personnel on an NSF research grant

Grant Amount/ Grant Period: Grant awards are up to $250,000, and the grant period is 24 months.

Grant Deadline: June 14, 2021
