Grant Opportunity: The National Science Foundation (NSF) is currently accepting applications for their Launching Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (LEAPS-MPS) program. This grant supports the research careers of pre-tenure faculty, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups, mathematical and physical sciences (MPS) fields at minority-serving institutions, predominantly undergraduate institutions, and Carnegie Research 2 universities. The LEAPS program provides funding for beginning investigators to undertake activities that will lead to the formulation of competitive grant applications to NSF.
Eligibility: Institutions of higher education, including two and four year accredited colleges and universities, with a campus located in the U.S. are eligible to apply on behalf of their faculty members.
Principal investigators must meet the following criteria:
- A citizen, national or legally admitted permanent resident
- Hold a doctoral degree in the typical disciplines of the fundamental research areas supported by the Divisions of the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences
- Are a new investigator at the time of application submission
- Have not previously served as Principal Investigator, co-Principal Investigator, or Senior Personnel on an NSF research grant
Grant Amount/ Grant Period: Grant awards are up to $250,000, and the grant period is 24 months.
