Humanities Initiatives Grants Deadline Approaching Graphic

Grant Opportunity: The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is now accepting applications for their Humanities Initiatives Grants. This program aims to strengthen the teaching and study of the humanities by providing funding for institutions of higher education for the development of new or the enhancement of current humanities programs. NEH is particularly interested in funding projects in the following areas:

  • “A More Perfect Union”: NEH Special Initiative Advancing Civic Education and Commemorating the Nation’s 250th Anniversary- Projects that promote a deeper understanding of American history and culture and that advance civic education and knowledge of our core principles of government
  • Standing Together- Projects that include research that explores war and its aftermath, promotes discussion and a deeper understanding of those affiliated with the U.S. armed service, and support veterans and their families
  • Protecting our Cultural Heritage- Projects that study, document, or create digital representations of lost or imperiled cultural heritage materials.


Eligibility: U.S. accredited public or 501(c)(3) private institutions of higher education are eligible to apply for Humanities Initiatives Grants. For a list of programs and eligibility criteria for each program, click here.

Grant Amount/ Grant Period: The maximum award for Humanities Initiatives grants is $150, 000. The project period will range from one to three years starting as early as February 1st, 2022.
