Grant Opportunity: The National Science Foundation's Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) program aims to increase post-secondary participation in computing careers, particularly in underrepresented groups. This grant supports the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative models, frameworks, and strategies to recruit and retain of students in undergraduate and graduate computing degrees. Grants in this program are distributed in the following three categories:
- Alliance grants support coalitions of institutions of higher learning, K-12 schools, government, industry, professional societies, and not-for-profit organizations in addressing underrepresentation in the computing disciplines.
- Demonstration Project grants support focused pilots of programs that can be incorporated into the activities of an existing or new Alliance, or otherwise scaled up for widespread impact.
- Supplement grants support additions to existing Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) projects to engage more members of the computing research community in BPC efforts.
Eligibility: Institutions of higher education located in the U.S., non-profit, non-academic organizations such as independent museums, observatories, research labs, professional societies, and state educational offices or organizations and local school districts are eligible to apply.
Grant Amount and Grant Period: New Alliance projects can request up to up to $750,000 per year for up to 3 years. Existing Alliance projects can request up to $1,200,000 per year for up to 5 years. Demonstration projects can request up to $300,000 for up to 2 years. Awards in the supplemental grants category will be a maximum $200,000.
