Grant Opportunity: The National Science Foundation's Science and Technology Studies (STS) Program is now accepting proposals! This grant funds interdisciplinary projects in the science and technology studies field that look at the cultural, economic, historical, social and political contexts impacting STEM development as well as how those developments reciprocally influence these contexts. Proposals are accepted in the following categories:

Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research will support basic science and technology studies research as well as the development of infrastructure to support such research.

Scholar's Awards will provide full-time release for an academic year and a summer to conduct science and technology studies research.

Professional Development Grants support specialized methodological training for post-PhD researchers in science and technology studies who have active research programs that would be enhanced by such training and would otherwise not be able to undertake such training on their home campuses.

Research Community Development Grants support community development activities for graduate students and faculty.

Conference Support Grants provide funds for national and international conferences including symposia, and research workshops, particularly focused on promoting new research networks between researchers in science and technology studies and scientists and engineers, or between scholars and members of scholarly communities not normally in contact with each other.

Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (DDRIG) provides funding for science and technology studies dissertation research expenses not normally available through the student's university.
Eligibility: U.S. institutions of higher education and nonprofit, non- academic organizations are eligible to apply for Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research, Scholar's Awards, Professional Development Grants, and Professional Development Grants. Applicants for the DDRIG grants must be doctoral students enrolled in U.S. graduate research programs.
Grant Amount/ Grant Period: While there is no award ceiling for STS grants, the grants are typically administered with the following ranges:

Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research: Less than $400,000 over two to three years

Scholar's Awards: Less than $180,000 distributed two or more years

Professional Development Grants: Maximum of $75, 000 over three years.

Research Community Development Grants: $75,000-$100,000 over three years

Conference Support Grants: Less than $25, 000

Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (DDRIG): Less than $10,000 in direct costs for research in North America and $12,500 in direct costs for international research
Grant Deadline: The deadlines for all categories except for DDRIG Proposals is August 3rd, 2021 and February 2nd, 2022. DDRIG Proposals will only be accepted before the August 3rd, 2021 deadline.
