Grant Opportunity: The National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) aims to broaden participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career fields by providing meaningful research experiences to undergraduate students throughout the academic year, summer or both.
REU grants have two mechanisms of support:
-
REU Sites are based on independent proposals to initiate and conduct either research within a discipline or across disciplines that engages a number of undergraduate students .
-
REU Supplements are proposals that support one to two students as part of an ongoing NSF-funded project. However, large centers of research or projects may request a number of REU-funded students proportional to the scope of the project.
Eligibility: Accredited two or four year institutions of higher education located in the United States are eligible to apply.
Grant Amount and Grant Period: The typical REU award ranges between $80,000-$130,000 per year for up to three years; however, there is no firm upper limit for REU grants and a duration of up to five years may be requested in some cases.
Grant Deadline: August 25, 2021
