Providing Mentorship and Occupational Experience to Youth

Grant Opportunity: The U.S. Department of Labor is now accepting proposals for their Growth Opportunities grant program. This program aims to combat violent crime while introducing and preparing justice-involved youth and young adults from communities impacted by violence and poverty to occupational education and training, leadership development, mentorship and work experience. Grants will be awarded to organizations that can serve as the lead applicant for a group of providers for these services.
 
The Growth Opportunities program distinguishes between two types of applicants.
  • Direct applicants provide direct services to enrolled individuals. Direct applicants must also have partnerships with individuals or organizations in violence prevention/ intervention,  the Justice System, and businesses/ labor unions.
  • Indirect applicants  support the administration of direct services by their sub-grantees by replicating best practices and providing administrative, fiscal, or management support across organizations.
 
Eligibility: Eligible applicants include units of local, county, and state government, independent school districts, Native American tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations.
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: Direct applicant grants will award a maximum of $2,000,000. Indirect applicant grants will award a maximum of $4,000,000. The grant period is 48 months with projects beginning on 06/01/2022.
