Grant Opportunity: In response to the shortage of teachers within New York State, the New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Teachers of Tomorrow: Science, Mathematics, Bilingual Education, and English as a New Language (TOTSMBE) Tuition Reimbursement program will provide funding for low-performing school districts to recruit and retain individuals who have received or will receive a transitional certificate.
TOTSMBE grants are administered in three categories.

Tuition Reimbursement for Professional Certification in Science, Mathematics, and English to Speakers of Other Languages grants will fund awards that will reimburse participants for educational costs incurred to fulfill NYSED requirements for a professional certificate in science, math, or ESOL in preparation for them to teach at low-performing schools.

Tuition Reimbursement for Initial Certification in Science, Mathematics, and English to Speakers of Other Languages grants will fund awards that will reimburse participants for educational costs incurred to fulfill NYSED requirements for an initial certificate in science, math, or ESOL in preparation for them to teach at low-performing schools.

Tuition Reimbursement for the Bilingual Education Extension grants will fund awards that will reimburse participants for educational costs incurred to fulfill NYSED requirements for a Bilingual Education Extension in preparation for them to teach at low-performing schools.
Eligibility: New York State school districts that are identified as experiencing a shortage of teachers in science, mathematics, bilingual education, and/or English as a new language, and have at least one low-performing school are eligible to apply. Grant Amount and Grant Period: The maximum award is $10,000 per Teachers of Tomorrow participant with a grant period of one-year.
