Grant Opportunity: In response to the shortage of teachers within New York State, the New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Teachers of Tomorrow program will provide funding for low-performing schools in New York State to recruit, retain, and certify teachers in bilingual education, career and technical education, English, English to speakers of other languages (ESOL), health education, literacy, mathematics, sciences, social studies, special education, and world languages other than English.
Teachers of Tomorrow grants are administered in the following categories:

Teacher Recruitment Incentive grants provide incentive awards to teachers employed for the first time in the school district.

Summer in the City Internships grants provide funding for school districts to establish partnerships with teacher education programs that provide field experience for prospective teachers in the City School Districts of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Yonkers and in New York City Department of Education.

Master Teacher Program grants provides funding for Master Teacher Awards in order to attract highly qualified, experienced, expert teachers to teach in low-performing schools.

Tuition Reimbursement Program grants provide funding for awards to reimburse teachers for courses taken in order to receive professional certification.

Summer Teacher Training Program grants provide funding for districts to provide intensive summer training for certified teachers employed by the NYCDOE for the first time.
Eligibility: New York State school districts that are identified as experiencing a shortage of teachers and have at least one low-performing school are eligible to apply. For the Master Teacher program, only districts specified by the New York State Department of Education as Receivership or low-performing are eligible to apply. For the Summer Teacher Training Program, only New York City Department of Education Schools are eligible to apply.
Grant Amount and Grant Period: The grant period runs from June 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026. The initial program period runs from June 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, with subsequent program periods beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
The maximum grant amounts are as follows:

Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program: $3,400 per teacher annually for up to three years

Summer in the City Internship Program: $2,000 per teacher annually

Master Teacher Program: $10,000 per teacher annually for up to three years total

Tuition Reimbursement Program: $700 per course for up to three courses per teacher for up to two years

Summer Teaching Training Program: $1,000 per teacher
