Addressing Basic Needs Insecurity in Postsecondary Students of Color

Grant Opportunity: Increasing evidence finds that food and housing insecurity impacts the well-being of post-secondary students which may reduce the odds that they will graduate with their degrees. In order to address the increased rates of basic needs insecurity among students of color and its impact on student success, the Office of Postsecondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education's Basic Needs for Postsecondary Students Program will provide funding for eligible institutions of higher education to create and implement interventions and programs that holistically address two or more of the following basic needs among students:
  • Food assistance
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Health, including physical health, mental health, and behavioral health and trauma
  • Child care
  • Technology
 
Eligibility: Eligible applicants include community colleges, two and four-year public and private Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal colleges and universities, and other minority-serving
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: Awards will range between $750,000 and $950,000 over a grant period of 36 months.
