Grant Opportunity: The National Park Service’s (NPS) African American Civil Rights Grant Program (AACR) funds projects that document, interpret, and preserve sites and stories of the African American struggle to gain equal rights from the transatlantic slave trade.
 
Grants are administered in the following categories:
  • Pre-preservation and Preservation Projects Grants will support pre-preservation efforts (such as architectural or engineering ) and/ or the physical conservation of "brick-and-motor" buildings or structures.
  • History and Collections Projects Grants will support interpretative and research projects.
 
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations, Indian/ Native Hawaiian tribes, units of state, territories, or local governments are eligible to apply. Pre-preservation and Preservation Projects must involve a site that is currently listed as or is eligible to be listed as a National Register of Historic Places or designated a National Historic Landmark.
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: Grants typically range between $15,000 and $75,000 for projects involving only pre-preservation work. For projects involving preservation, grants typically range between m $75,000 and $750,000. History and Collections Projects grants will range between $15,000 and $50,000. The grant period ranges between two to three years.
