Revitalizing Humanities in Higher Education

Grant Opportunity: The Cornerstone: Learning for Living initiative is a grant program from the Teagle Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities which aims to reinvigorate the role of the humanities in general education. This program supports the planning and implementation of faculty-led projects that embed transformative texts in gateway courses for incoming undergraduate students that help strengthen critical thinking and communication skills while creating coherent pathways through general education.
 
Grants are available in two categories:
  • Planning grants will support efforts to lay the groundwork for curriculum reform and faculty professional development.
  • Implementation grants will support concrete plans for comprehensive and sustainable curriculum development or redesign efforts.
 
Eligibility: Private not-for-profit and public institutions of higher education are eligible to apply.
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: Implementation grants will award up to $350,000 over 24 months while planning grants will award up to $25,000 over 6-12 months.
 
Important Dates:
  • Deadline for Concept Papers: December 1st. 2022
  • Status Notification: February 2023
  • Final Application Deadline: April 2023
