Supporting Cradle-to-College Strategies for Boys and Young Men of Color in New York State with the My Brother's Keeper Challenge Grant

rant Opportunity: The New York State Education Department is now accepting applications for the My Brother's Keeper Challenge Grant. This grant supports the development and implementation of My Brother's Keeper Challenge projects that support coherent cradle-to-college career strategies for boys and young men of color. 
 
Projects should address at least one of the following focus areas:
  • Getting a Healthy Start and Entering School Ready to Learn
  • Reading at Grade Level by Third Grade
  • Ensuring Equitable Access to High-Quality Schools and Programs
 
Eligibility: New York State public school districts that meet the following conditions are eligible:
  • BEDS Day Economically Disadvantaged % Enrolled > 54
  • BEDS Day English Language Learner (ELL) % Enrolled > 0.9
  • and a 2015 Cohort (2019 graduating class) by August of 4th year % graduated < 76
OR
  • BEDS Day Economically Disadvantaged % Enrolled > 59
  • and a 2015 Cohort (2019 graduating class) by August of 4th year % graduated < 76
OR
  • BEDS Day English Language Learner (ELL) % Enrolled >2.9
  • and a 2015 Cohort (2019 graduating class) by August of 4th year % graduated < 76
 
Grant Amount and Grant Period: The initial grant period will be up to four years between September 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024, with a four-year funding cycle through August 31, 2027, depending on continued appropriation of funds.
 
This grant program will award the following amounts for 2023-2024, the first year of the funding cycle.
  • Projects that address one focus area: Up to $190,000
  • Projects that address two focus areas: Up to $240,000
  • Projects that address three focus areas: Up to $300,000
 
Important Dates:
  • Informational Webinar: April 19th, 2023
  • Questions Due: May 3rd, 2023
  • Optional Letter of Intent Due: May 24th, 2024
  • Applications Due: May 31st, 2023
